The Hayden Four Mill branding project reimagines a historic local mill into a modern visual identity that honors its roots while embracing new energy. Inspired by the textures of grain, stone, and machinery, the brand merges industrial heritage with clean, contemporary design.

Hayden Flour Mill: Early Logo Concept Sketch

This sketch represents one of the earliest explorations for the Hayden Flour Mill logo, a loose, expressive drawing that captures the organic and handcrafted essence of the brand. Even in its rough form, the concept hints at the mill’s identity: natural, rooted in tradition, and centered around the craft of milling.
The floral emblem takes shape here as a free-form illustration, circling the brand name and evoking the textures of grains, petals, and hand-drawn artistry. Below, the sketch of hands working dough reinforces the human touch at the heart of the brand, reminding viewers that Hayden’s products come from generations of real people, real work, and real heritage.

Hayden Flour Mill: Website Wireframe

Sketch 1 centers the logo and navigation with a clean hero section featuring “Taste the Grain” and a product slider, using the wide layout to create a modern, open feel. Sketch 2 rearranges these elements, bringing the product slider forward and adjusting the tagline to strengthen storytelling and visual flow.

These sketches outline key UI decisions, search placement, navigation clarity, breakpoints, and image scaling, serving as the blueprint for a user-friendly site that highlights both the products and the mill’s heritage.

Typography Choices

For the Hayden Flour Mill rebrand, Merriweather Bold and Barlow Regular were chosen to create a balance of heritage and modern simplicity. Merriweather brings a classic, sturdy character that reflects the mill’s long-standing history and craftsmanship, making it ideal for headlines and brand marks. Montserrat complements it with clean, approachable letterforms that keep body text readable and contemporary.

Color Palette Choice

This palette was chosen to reflect the warmth, heritage, and handcrafted character of Hayden Flour Mill. The rich brick red serves as the primary color, evoking tradition, craftsmanship, and the earthy tones of grain and milling. The soft cream adds a welcoming, natural brightness that keeps the brand approachable and clean. A deep brown grounds the palette with stability and depth, while the warm wheat yellow introduces a hint of freshness and nostalgia, echoing fields of grain and the heart of the mill’s story.
